Terms of Use
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Owlly is an app built and run by an independent solo developer ("I", "me", "my"). These terms are the agreement between you and me for using the app. By downloading or using Owlly you accept them and the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
I may update these terms now and then. If I do, I'll change the date above and flag important changes in the app. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version.
Who can use it
In the EU (including France) you must be at least 15, or have a parent or guardian's consent. Elsewhere you must be at least 13, and if you're under 18 you should use the app with a parent or guardian involved, who accepts these terms for you. The app isn't for children under 13.
What Owlly is
Owlly is a study aid. It uses AI to give you step-by-step solutions, teacher-style feedback on your own attempts, a follow-up tutor chat, and study aids like flashcards, quizzes, and summaries built from your material.
It's a tool to help you learn, not a replacement for your own work or your teacher. Follow your school's rules on what help is allowed. The AI can be wrong or incomplete — check anything important yourself before you rely on it. Nothing it produces is professional advice.
Your account
Owlly doesn't use account sign-in — there's no username, email, or password to create. The app keeps your work attached to an anonymous identifier for your install. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on a new device through the App Store.
What you can and can't do
You get a personal, non-transferable right to use the app for your own studying. Please don't:
- copy, resell, rent out, or redistribute the app;
- reverse engineer it, except where the law says you may;
- get around usage limits, the paywall, or other protections;
- use bots or scripts against the app or its backend, or try to break or overload it;
- use it for anything illegal, or to create content that infringes someone's rights or is hateful, harassing, or abusive;
- use its output to build or train a competing AI product.
I can suspend or end your access if you break these rules.
Your content
The photos, text, attempts, and messages you put into the app stay yours, and so do the solutions and study aids it generates for you. You give me permission to store and process that content, including sending it to the services in the Privacy Policy, only to run the app's features for you. You confirm you have the right to submit what you upload and that it doesn't break the law or someone else's rights.
Payments
The app has a free tier and optional paid plans and credit packs, all sold through Apple. I never see your card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the price shown, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- If a plan includes a free trial, you'll be charged for the first period when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before then.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store account settings. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the current period. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Credits are one-time purchases, used up as you use paid features, don't expire while your account is active, and have no cash value.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms — I can't issue them directly. This doesn't affect any refund right you have under your local consumer law.
Availability and liability
I work to keep the app running but can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that its output will be correct. The app is provided "as is", without warranties, to the extent the law allows.
To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, grades, or academic standing, arising from your use of the app. My total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid me for the app in the 12 months before the claim. None of this limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory consumer rights.
Ending your use
You can stop using Owlly any time by uninstalling it (remember that this alone doesn't cancel a subscription). I can end your access if you break these terms or if I stop offering the app. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
If there's a problem
Email me first and I'll genuinely try to sort it out. This doesn't affect any right you have to go to a consumer body or the courts available to you where you live.
Apple
These terms are between you and me, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or for support, but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary.
